Wow, another NINJA

Thanks to MadMalkav for sending me this one.

Someone named Nemesis has released a new patcher that has partial support for the NINJA file format. It’s called Ouinja. I haven’t tried it yet, but according to the author it’s very fast.

The downside is, he only supports NINJA’s RAW mode files. Meaning it will not be able to use NINJA patches made for systems like Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis or Game Boy–which was, in my opinion, one of the greatest strengths of the NINJA format (getting rid of problems with interleaved ROMs).

Maybe in the future he’ll add support for it. But on the bright side, it was a nice reminder that I invented the format, and that I need to do some more work on it again. But right now, I’m focusing mainly on Heroine Anthem so I’m not sure when I’ll get to it.

I need to fix the 16×19 font. Apparently the first letter of names has been here all along and just never was noticed. I need to drop the upper case by 1 pixel.

I’m considering expanding the 8×16 font to include the full Anglo-Saxon Runic alphabet. Given I can read more than two forms of runic, I noticed that the game was transcribing all runes to English pronunciation. Hence why you are given a “U” rune. But when you go to the rune stone screen, the character you will see will be the runic alphabet letter with that sound. It’s kind of a disconnect in the script.

I’m planning to translate all the sounds and properties back into runic for use in the English game. I also am going to design a rune-cut style Latin font for use in the game’s menus. I need to re-do those anyway–they were all lost in my disk crash in last year’s power surge.
