Beggar Prince soon to be released

You may remember my mentioning a year ago that I was working with SuperFighter.com in getting The New Prince & the Pauper (新乞丐王子) translated. As much as I like that title more and think it makes more sense and is a more accurate translation, the official title is going to be Beggar Prince.

Death Adder has a Web site up for the upcoming game’s release at BeggarPrince.com. Right now there are just a few screenshots. My end of the work is completely done and unless there’s some need for tweaking the location of the new script, I shouldn’t really be called on for much more. The current delay is Death Adder is trying to get the bugs that shipped in the original version of the game corrected.

The game was made by the company C&E Inc. I’ll spare you mentioning the country name to avoid divergence into complete political bulls–t, but will say it’s an island very close to China that speaks Chinese, is populated almost entirely by Chinese people with no United Nations seat and that almost no nation formally recognizes as a country.

Before you ask, no, there is no ROM. On top of that, the game uses certain features that make parts of it break on all emulators, even Kega Fusion. Even if someone dumped it, nothing is going to run it.

The game is actually being minted and released on cartridges. I’m not sure how early they will go on sale, but I believe Older Games will be stocking it. Sadly, I’ll probably never even get to play this game I helped make happen since I don’t own a Genesis

The game is pretty long and took a 3MB cart originally, but with all the extra space needed for new graphics, various fixes and the English script it’s been bumped out to 4MB. There are four save slots available.

So yeah, you’ll probably see this mentioned around emulation and classic gaming sites the next few weeks. I was going to attach some nice hq2x filtered screenshots to this post, but then I remembered my version of the script is extremely outdated, so instead, just look at the direct captures posted at BeggarPrince.com
