A slew of updates

Yeah, I haven’t updated in a while. Here’s a run-down on what’s new.

FEIDIAN was updated to version 0.6. It now supports BDF font output, tile padding and Binary Font Recognition (BCR). This means you can use one font and its table to try to fill in another font’s table. Handy for companies who recycle their fonts or use generic dev kit ones.

I’m working with Nightwolve on Langrisser III. He’s helping with assembler and compression as he has time. I’m working on the script. I will send whatever I do to CyberWarriorX so he can use it in the Saturn version. This means if one gets done, both can get done, so feel free to volunteer help. Right now, I’m still catching up to his work.

Nightwolve helped fix Langrisser II PC so it stops crashing at the end of Scenario 1. However, I don’t have time to work on that game. I will, some time in the near future, be releasing my complete toolkit for Langrisser II PC with his patch, the Japanese scripts, and some of what I have completed.

Anyone who wants to be a hero can pick that up and finish the project on their own, or start their own group to finish it. It doesn’t matter to me–it’s in your hands. I just don’t want to sit on a translation that is fully hacked, making everyone wait for me to get around to it.

I found an ancient CD with some scripts on it, including the Langrisser II ones, which I tried to inform Dark Force about. DeJap lost it in their infamous disk crash, but it’s apparently not important enough for him to send me an E-mail or ICQ message. I gave it to byuu instead. I know he’s busy screwing around with some big shell monsters, so he probably won’t work on it till Der Langrisser is out. At the current rate of progress on Der Langrisser’s script, that puts it some time around NEVER.

In other news, I can almost read Heroine Anthem on my own! Yeah, isn’t that sad? Since I started on Heroine Anthem, I’ve had nearly two full years of Chinese, to go along with the 1800 characters I already know from Japanese, so I may yet be able to work on the script–since I’m getting about one file every three months from other people.

I’m also playing with Destiny of an Emperor III by SKOB. It’s an unlicensed Genesis game, meaning Cowering gave it a stupid name. Destiny of an Emperor III isn’t a much better name, I only went with that one because it’s an attempt at making a new Tenchi wo Kurau RPG which there are two of.

I have a table done, sans about 26 chars I can’t recognize. The script is partly located and dumped, and I’ll plan to use FEIDIAN for reinserting a dual-tile font. Unlike Heroine Anthem, it’s really easy to read. Then again, I’ve read it more recently than when I last looked at Heroine Anthem, so take that as you will.

That CD I found Langrisser II on also had a few Magna Carta scripts from back in the day when Zarghas worked on it–almost two years ago. I sent them to Talbain to go with what his translators have done.

I also added some more files I found to “Really Old Stuff.” Some are complete translations, some are incomplete. All are old.
