Unpublished: the real Jamie Bunker

Some of you may remember T2D - The Second Dimension, a game news Web site I ran from 2003 - 2005. After the site closed its doors, I still got some very interesting e-mails. Ones I wished I could post.

The most interesting by far was one from Jamie Bunker, the professional gamer.

Visitors may remember one section of the Web site called “Scandamonium,” one of our most original columns where we riffed on terrible game ads from 1980s magazines. One page of Scandamonium riffed on “mullet man” Jamie Bunker, the “professional gamer” hired to pose for a series of Gaiares ads.

Bunker actually achieved a bit of fame on the site, and while we all chuckled at his hair and geeky expressions, his unparalleled glee over this game actually inspired several users to try the game. The conclusion was this: it’s not bad.

Below is the complete advertisement series we posted to the Web site:

Below is a truly special e-mail. This one came in from the professional gamer himself, and there is really no reason to believe it is a forgery.

Hello,

My name is Jamie Bunker. ~15 years ago I did those funny ads for Renovation for the Gaiares game:

I have original hard copies of those pics, but had no clue they were accessible on the web. Until last Friday! A friend of mine found one of the pics and after searching I found your site. Hella funny!!!

Just wanted to drop a quick line a say “hi”. Unfortunately, my mullet’s long gone. See ya!

Regards,
Jamie Bunker

Thanks for your e-mail, Jamie. I’m sorry it was never able to be posted until now. These kinds of letters are what really make all my work feel like it is worth something, so cheers to you.
