Someone let out the stupids

It’s Sunday in Beijing, and for those of you who live here, you know what that means: the stupids are on the loose!

Yes, everywhere you go, you will find hundreds of people doing everything they can to possibly inconvenience and aggravate you.

Today, I had the misfortune of meeting a shop clerk who apparently does not understand English or Chinese.

Loads of new languages in WineLocale

For anyone using my WineLocale program or considering it, I’ve released a new version 0.4. This release adds support for Arabic, Greek, Hebrew and Russian, so it’s no longer a CJK-only application.

Hopefully this is useful to more people. I’ve already gotten some responses at the Ubuntu thread. As usual, more language requests are welcome. Please see the TODO file and email me if you can help me out with the info to make those possible.

Check the WineLocale page for screenshots of the new locales in action. Most were tested using IrfanView’s locale extensions.

Feisty Fawn is out Thursday

If you’ve been waiting for Feisty’s stable release before you try out Ubuntu, the wait is almost over.

Version 7.04 subbed “Feisty Fawn” will be released this Thursday. The official Web site now has a countdown on it.

I’ve been running Feisty since it was in alpha in January, and have been watching the bugs slowly vanish from the OS. I’m quite happy with it at this point. If you’re interested in giving it a try, then now is the time.

Fuck you, Denny.

I’ll see your evil and raise you one vindictive.

I have owned “D” since last July on all FreeNode servers. A week ago I began being unable to IDENTIFY with NickServ.

Now I know why.

It’s not always the quiet ones

If you caught CNN on Monday, you may have seen the half-a-state chase as Michigan police and local offices tried to catch Anthony LaCalamita III: my 38-year-old high school accounting teacher from Notre Dame Preparatory, Pontiac.

LaCalamita wasn’t a quiet teacher. He was frequently on the announcements, and he never hesitated to scream at us when we ran in the halls. Honestly, none of the teachers there were terribly quiet or introverted. I could see a few of them being closet gays, but never a mad gunman.

Chugging along on FF5

Dave Pavlisak was my instant idol. He was the first college student who ever really bothered to talk to me, and he gave me some respect for being as ambitious as I was for 14-year-old.

More importantly, he built his own Super Nintendo cartridge copier. I had looked at DiskDude’s schematics and was just left scratching my head. Where I was confused, he was not. In fact, he built his without ever hearing of those plans, and at a time when the only documentation on the system was some old postings to the “famidev” newsgroup.

What can I say, the guy was smart.
