Debian package for Bless

One of the most lacking kinds of applications on Linux — aside from page layout software (Scribus sucks) — is hex editors. The only halfway descent one around, Bless, never distributes binaries. Like most Linux software, its source also refuses to compile without a specific version of GCC.

Huzzah!

Anyway, Ubuntu Forums user loko has released a Debian package for Bless 0.5.1, the latest, which works very well. You just need to install Mono first. One easy way to get mono is to `apt-get install banshee`, a Mono-based music player.

Since he made the package using checkinstall, it will not resolve dependencies on its own. However, from my experience, Mono is the only dependency. Enjoy!

Best of Gmail spam

Today I ventured into Gmail’s spam folder for the first time. The results are truly bewildering. I’ve seen the Nigerians trying to get me to help them embezzle millions, and I’ve seen the “girls takes on one-eyes monster” e-mails, but apparently, now spammers think I need love letters.

I stress that none of these had images attached to them.

Der Langrisser is finished

The translation was released a few days ago; I was just too busy and tired to update this page.

As per the actual patch, it will not be hosted on this server. You can get the latest from the Der Langrisser Translation project’s download page. I am incredibly pleased with how my instruction manual turned out — it is one of my best QuarkXpress projects to date.

The 1.01 patch was released today, and it fixes a major glitch in the initial release. Hope you all can enjoy it.

My local Der Langrisser page was updated with the same news, and also includes most of the press kit screenshots in a LightBox for your viewing convenience.

News of my death has been …

I only just yesterday posted that notice about canning Heroine Anthem II and Der Langrisser likely being my final translation. Apparently word gets around fast.

So, before anyone starts with any Hotel California references and my wonderful “quitting” record thus far, let me do a little explaining.

Heroine Anthem II cancelled, tools now PD

I have completely canceled my planned Heroine Anthem II translation. I will not be resuming it — ever. I simply cannot run the game. My computer is incompatible with the StarForce 3 rootkit that is required to run the game. Even if there were a way to run it, I no longer have Windows.

The tools have been collected and released into the public domain. You are free to distribute this and do anything you want with all the included files. The only exception is the bitmap dump of the Sun Solaris console font — I have no idea what license this font is released under.

Top search results of the year

It’s been too long since I audited my logs and did a list of the top funniest search strings that have led people to this page.

Anyone who has seen this site can already guess what the most common search strings are, so I think it is more fun to do the most interesting …
