Why the PHP5 GD library is insane

For anyone using PHP5’s GD library, you may want to update your copy with the one from the Pirate Repository. By the end of this post, it should be clear why.
At some point along its development, whoever maintains the PHP5 GD extension made a very bad decision: to drop half the extension when linking against external GD.

CinnamonPirate.com now has its own Ubuntu repository at http://repository.cinnamonpirate.com/. Packages are currently being built and released for Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy.
The repository is notable for hosting the only Debian packages of several obscure Japanese PC emulators which took considerable work to compile. It also hosts a heavily optimized version of the latest mednafen, bsnes, virtualjaguar, yabause, dosbox and a variety of ROM hacking tools compiled for — and in a few cases ported to — Linux.

Pre-orders open for Loongson laptop

I’ve been following the progress of Lemote, the corporate branch of the Loongson chip developers, for the last year or so. For the longest time, I had my eye on a proposed Loongson laptop on their product page.
While it’s not the same laptop, the company is taking pre-orders for an incredible little machine. It’s tiny and then some, with an 8″ LCD screen and maximum of 800×480 resolution. But all that adds up to portability.
