FBI Ate My Balls
31 January 2008 | Random | 1 Response
If one of the Internet’s “older” denizens, you may remember “Ate My Balls,” one of the earliest examples of an Internet meme to spread off the web and into commercial press. “Ate My Balls” graced the pages of many authors, including the Miami Herald’s Dave Barry.
There were many “Ate My Balls” sites: Charles Bukowski Ate My Balls, Mr. T Ate My Balls and, most special to me, Faelan Ate My Balls.
Now, this is not special to me because Faelan ate my balls; it is special to me because I hosted it, along with the rest of Emucult.

Hard disk failures suck. I haven’t had one in a little while now, so don’t expect this to evolve into a rant about shoddy technology or operating systems which outright assassinate disks. I am merely musing on how with a hard disk, your information is subject to death at any time.
Not so with the Internet.
From early 2001 until 2003, I ran as site called JumpStation.org. It began as a bridge between several project pages I maintained at the time, mostly fan sites or pages related to translation or hardware modding. I eventually consolidated these projects under that site.
An Openbox theme that doesn’t suck
29 January 2008 | Ubuntu | No Responses
I am proud to release D Blues, the first Openbox theme which — if you are using a Sans 9 Title Bar font — does not suck.
Aside from being the only Openbox theme which does not suck, it is the only one to not use a variant of the same shitty buttons found in every Openbox theme.
You can get it from my DeviantArt page. A screenshot follows the jump.

Fixing Openbox’s separator color
28 January 2008 | Ubuntu | No Responses
One small annoyance with Openbox that I found was that its separator color does not match up with how things are handled in most Gtk and Qt themes. The color of the separator is taken from the text color rather than from the disabled text color.
Fixing this is not hard if you do not mind recompiling Openbox. Like all tutorials here, this will assume you are using Ubuntu.
A Guide to Modern Poetry
22 January 2008 | Great Ideas | 4 Responses
If Tennyson or Lord Byron saw what people have passed off as poetry since the Beat generation, the two would be very confused as to what exactly about it is poetry(, this run-on caught by EricKei) or moved to suicide at the death of their art.
A generation has grown up writing formless “poetry” with no meter and no rhyme. What is poetry with no form, no meter and no rhyme? Broken prose with an overdose of adjectives.
I have thought of a solution.

I am the origin of thousands of spiteful, hateful or otherwise awesome ideas. Unfortunately, I am also poor and work full time. Rarely do I have time to bring any ideas to fruition.
And that is where this category comes in.
From now on, whenever I have an absolutely awesome idea that I know I will never have the time or resources to pull off, I will put it here.
You are free to rob my ideas, but a notice if you do would be great. I won’t sue you, it would just put a smile on my face.
