Happy anniversary!
Posted on April 1st, 2008 4 commentsThe new translation patch for Der Langrisser is finally ready. This version fixes two more bugs in the original Japanese version of the game, rewrites several scenes that were poorly translated due to not knowing the speaking characters and enables Demons, a dummied-out hireable unit.
You can download the new patch from the Langrisser Projects blog.
This new patch is distributed in byuu’s new UPS patch format. It is a replacement to the limited IPS format, and will be the Vorbis to NINJA3’s Ogg. A Windows version of the patcher is available from byuu’s page, and a Linux version is available from the CinnamonPirate.com Ubuntu repository. daemoncollector has released an OS X-based patcher for Cocoa.

New Langrisser documentation available
Posted on December 29th, 2007 No commentsThis document has been available online for several days now, however I forgot to make any mention of it on the main page of this Web site.
Recently, I spent some time working with Der Langrisser to analyze and dump its data structures following an interesting post by “maxmat” on the Chinese Emumax gaming forum, where he posted how to change Erwin’s base stats.
This inspired me to … improve on his work.

Gaia gets gradient font, borders
Posted on December 25th, 2007 No commentsIn preparation for the NINJA3 patching format, I’ve been dusting off my old projects to make some finishing touches. Crest of Gaia, surprisingly, has received the bulk of my touch up work.
The updates to the game add support for a thin, gradient font, drop shadows, a new title screen, better window borders, more colors and a freshly edited script.
All it needs now is testers.

Der Langrisser is finished
Posted on June 12th, 2007 8 commentsThe translation was released a few days ago; I was just too busy and tired to update this page.
As per the actual patch, it will not be hosted on this server. You can get the latest from the Der Langrisser Translation project’s download page. I am incredibly pleased with how my instruction manual turned out — it is one of my best QuarkXpress projects to date.
The 1.01 patch was released today, and it fixes a major glitch in the initial release. Hope you all can enjoy it.
My local Der Langrisser page was updated with the same news, and also includes most of the press kit screenshots in a LightBox for your viewing convenience.

Heroine Anthem II cancelled, tools now PD
Posted on June 5th, 2007 4 commentsI have completely canceled my planned Heroine Anthem II translation. I will not be resuming it — ever. I simply cannot run the game. My computer is incompatible with the StarForce 3 rootkit that is required to run the game. Even if there were a way to run it, I no longer have Windows.
The tools have been collected and released into the public domain. You are free to distribute this and do anything you want with all the included files. The only exception is the bitmap dump of the Sun Solaris console font — I have no idea what license this font is released under.

Twelve more days till DL
Posted on May 27th, 2007 4 commentsThere are 12 days left before the release of Der Langrisser. That is why there have been no updates to this Web site at all. All of my free time is going into the manual, the patch format and correcting all the text and bug reports coming in from beta testers.
Yes, this is why the Memory posts are currently on hiatus. They will resume following Der Langrisser’s release. I have the next one and a half written, but there is simply no time available right now to polish them up for posting.
I cannot wait for this project to finally be over.

And so a legend draws to an end
Posted on May 3rd, 2007 14 commentsMy last big translation project, Der Langrisser, now six years in the making, is almost done.
For real this time.
Since we have a week off for May Day, I have been working ten hours per day to pull together the last loose ends. In the next two days, I will finish off the Chaos and Independent Paths (15 scenarios), and then the scripts will be given one final spell check with OpenOffice.org.

Mystic Balloon released
Posted on December 2nd, 2006 2 commentsIt’s finally done. It took some tweaking to get the stage submission form working within WordPress, but it does now.
You can get the patch for the game from the Mystic Balloon page. Please submit any stages you design for it to the stages archive. Hope you enjoy this one.
The patch is in NINJA 2.0 format, so you will need NINJA.

A Langrisser post
Posted on September 21st, 2006 20 commentsEricKei has finally sent me the writing samples to determine who will take over his position as former Der Langrisser script editor. My role was always style and formatting editor while his was the actual flow of dialogue, so his role was very important. I have forwarded the samples to Moon Knight and we will hopefully select someone by this weekend.
There may actually be some chance of Der Langrisser being released by the end of the year!

Der Langrisser progress
Posted on April 2nd, 2006 9 commentsI got on byuu last night about finishing off the programming for the game. There’s also still the issue that ellipsis is supported in the script editor but is not properly being handled in the real game. Hopefully this gets fixed up soon.
I’m plugging away at script editing every night, and hope to finish speedily. If I can keep up my current motivation, I may even finish by the end of the month.
