Sonic Eraser

Attack!

Sonic CulT found this game on Sega’s emulator service, paid to play and ripped the ROM. It’s some kind of an old SegaNet game I think–whatever SegaNet was.

Basically it’s a puzzle game, and shockingly enough, it’s by Sega and not Columns! Since every other puzzle game Sega itself ever released on its system was a Columns clone, that’s all I thought they could make.

Pieces fall from the top in blocks of four. You can shift the colour positions but not rotate the piece itself. Match two of the same colour side-by-side to clear pieces. Angles do not work. The idea is to try to create chains to rack up points. If you do a big enough chain, there’s a little cinema of your Sonic running over and knocking the other Sonic dizzy.

Instructions

The translation took … maybe two hours. It was just the instructions for the game, not The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. As such, don’t expect some delicate handling of the Japanese language as an art form. I wrote what I saw in English. I don’t think a puzzle game really demands much more than that.

The font was yoinked from some Zophar’s Domain font pack. No idea who released the pack, but the font itself comes from the old PC game, Master of Orion.

I added lower case to the font and redid the credits with lower case letters because I don’t like having the computer scream the names of the developers at me.

Hope you like the game, make sure to thank the Sonic CulT people for buying it and dumping it.
